Strouse Home Inspections is a family run company. We do what we do because we understand the desire to keep your family safe. One critical service that we offer that helps keep families safe is radon testing. There is a lot of information floating around when it comes to radon and that is why today we wanted to demystify a few common myths on the subject.
Radon Is not Serious
You may come across a person every now and again that claims that radon is not dangerous. That yes, in large amounts it may lead to cancer, but that does not mean that small amounts of it do. However, if you look to established institutions such as The Center for Disease Control, The World Health Organization, EPA, or the American Lung Association just to name a few, they all agree that radon poses serious threats to human health. Based on that, you can decide who you want to believe.
Radon Only Affects Certain Types of Homes
Another myth you may have heard is that only specific types of homes are prone to radon. The truth is though, that the presence of radon is based on a wide range of factors that cannot be bundled up simply into the style of house itself. Radon comes from the ground and things like soil, atmospheric conditions, construction materials, and more can all factor into whether your home is prone to radon or not.
Knowing the Radon Results from a Neighbor is Good Enough
Theoretically, because your home and your neighbor’s home are built on the same land it would make sense that just knowing the results of their radon test would be a good enough indicator for your home as well. Unfortunately, this just is not the case. Like we touched on previously, there are many factors that could contribute to radon levels for any given home. So, it is the wisest course to get your specific plot tested.
Radon Tests are Too Time Consuming and Too Expensive
The truth is that you can get simple tests for under $20 and they only take a few days to get a reading. And since you just set it and forget it, you do not have to actively do anything while the test is being conducted.
The issue with cheaper tests is that they are not the most reliable option. A test conducted by a professional will deliver you with results that you know are true and accurate. Resulting in a good night’s rest. At Strouse Home Inspections, we offer reliable and through radon testing at a competitive price. If you would like to know more, feel free to get in touch with us. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
